The first Sex and the City movie was a gleeful addendum to the series with enough substance to be interesting and enough heart to be fun. The film, set two years after the first, follows our girls Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), Charlotte (Kristin Davis), and Samantha (Kim Cattrall) as they take an impromptu vacation to Abu Dhabi. Unless you’ve lived under a rock for the last twenty years, you are surely at least peripherally aware of the main characters. and Samantha’s success as a publicist is tempered by the onset of menopause, which she desperately staves off by taking forty-four hormone and vitamin pills a day. Its decadence—Manolos, Cosmos, hot sex in NYC penthouses—was pure wish-fulfillment for a generation of American women who could only hope for that kind of frivolity. The show, while sometimes vapid and occasionally downright silly, was smart, well-written, and progressive. When cell phones first started to come into vogue, you couldn’t go more than a day without hearing the show’s theme bleeping out of someone’s Motorola.

Jessica Simpson was spotted walking around Hollywood dressed like this. Of course, I was just looking at the stories about Brit and Hohan, so compared to them, a pile of dog food would look attractive. The shoes, the dress, the purse, the hair. It probably wouldn’t even look that weird except she’s dressed like she’s heading off to a high school prom. She just doesn’t get it. She’s a person acting and dressing like they *think* a celebrity would. Let me stay this slowly so you get it, Jessica. She looks like she stole it form a kindergarten class. Where are their handlers, or dressers, or whoever the hell makes sure they don’t look like crap when they leave the house. And she looks decent enough, but what’s going on with her purse. I wish she would go away just so she could find what she is really supposed to be doing with her life, because this is *not* it. Reply O. k. , this is scary, but I think she looks pretty good.
